Play Me I’m Yours
June 29, 2010
I read about the exhibition Play Me I’m Yours a couple of weeks ago, and while it seemed interesting, I didn’t appreciate it until I walked past one of these pianos in Athens Park in Astoria, en route to brunch on Sunday.
There were a few people checking out the curious new addition to the park, and when I went back the next morning to take a pic, it had sadly been moved to another area of the city. Instead, a photograph from the website itself must suffice:

Performance, Art?
June 4, 2010
So last Friday, I was accompanied by a friend to the Museum of Modern Art where we caught the tail end of the somewhat infamous (in NYC at least) Marina Abramović exhibition. I have never been a big performance art person, often feeling like I am missing out on some crucial understanding that everyone has, so in general was a bit blase about the whole thing, though Abramović definitely has done some interesting pieces, such as the time she sat herself in front of a loaded gun so that anyone could pick it up and shoot her (apparently she would not react) and her break up with Ulay where they met on the great wall of China after 90 days of walking.
Either way, to be honest, the most interesting part of the exhibition was seeing the spectacle of people waiting to sit with the artist for as long as they wanted. There was a photographer on hand to take everyone’s portrait, and I found the resulting flickr gallery to be the most interesting aspect of the whole thing. Maybe just cause I love to stare at people, and this is a forum for me to do that without getting weird looks.
Check it out for yourself here.
Greater New York
May 19, 2010
My favourite museum in New York is PS1, the contemporary arm of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). The reason it’s my favourite (and not just because it is conveniently located near me in Queens) is that they have a slew of great exhibitions held in a fantastic space that gives you the feeling you are in an abandoned hospital, an excellent space for contemporary art.
This Sunday May 23rd, a new exhibition called Greater New York opens, and from the pics I’ve seen it will be quite exciting (of course I will be attending the Bust Craftacular in Williamsburg that day so it will have to wait until next weekend!) Read the rest of this entry »
